Gibson ES-175D 1966

This 1966 Gibson ES-175D is a really superb example of one of Gibson’s most iconic archtop electric guitars. Introduced in 1949, the ES-175 quickly became a favorite among jazz players for its rich, warm tone and superb playability.

This particular 1966 model, finished in a beautiful faded cherry sunburst typical of the period has developed a lovely patina over time, adding to its vintage charm. The original frets remain in excellent condition, showing very little wear. A strap button has been added to the neck heel, and the bridge has been upgraded to a tune-o-matic, but otherwise, the guitar remains all original. Weight is 2900g.

The ES-175’s laminated maple body provides a balanced tonal response, with a mahogany neck that offers stability and warmth. The guitar’s rosewood fingerboard and 24.75″ scale length make it a comfortable instrument for both chord work and intricate soloing.

Players like Joe Pass, Pat Metheny, and Wes Montgomery have famously used the ES-175, further cementing its legendary status in jazz and beyond.
