It’s 1945, the war is finally over, the cafés of Paris are full of people listening to music again – music that combines European tradition with American jazz, where the guitar players are swingin’ it out on the hottest instrument around, a brand new Di Mauro Boogie Woogie. Or so we like to imagine! 😉
Antoine Di Mauro was an Italian luther who set in the 1930s set up a series of shop on the east side of Paris and started making jazz guitars in the Selmer Maccaferri style, which were very popuilar. Di Mauro was one of the most successful and long lasting of these Franco-Sicilian luthiers as his guitars were widely adopted by players of many styles. Di Mauro guitars were produced continuously until the early 90s, first by Antoine and then later by his son Joseph.
The Boogie Woogie model is an example of Di Mauro’s version of a Maccaferri-style guitars. It features a 21-fret neck, a 640mm scale, and a slightly larger 16 1/8″ body. Spruce top, rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard.
Like many of its contemporaries, this guitar has had fair number of issues over the years, but unlike most other examples this one has been totally repaired and refurbished so it’s ready to go again for the next 80 years.
